It's Educational

I figured since every night I go to bed thinking "dang, if I were looking at more than 4-4.5 hours of sleep tonight, I totally would have written something up about my time in Houston so far!" perhaps I should do a quick base-touching with everyone (did that come off sounding inappropriate? I don't sleep anymore, people, I apologize).

Actually, that's pretty much the update. I get up sometime between 4:30 and 5:30 AM each day. If I'm lucky, I'm in bed around 10. I lesson plan- it's pretty much my life. Oh! And never ending assessment. Also 3 90 minute teacher-school sessions per day, which basically leaves room for eating while walking or riding the bus to school.

However, this is a step up from what was pretty much straight-up indoctrination (eh- it's a mission I can get behind, so it doesn't bother me too much) followed by what can only be described, as my new TFA friend Colleen disdainfully put it, "happy clappy time" for the first 10 days. The former involves a lot of core-value brainwashing (but, as I said, the really good brand that moms everywhere trust). The latter involves cowbells, conch shells, and spelling "Mississippi" backwards at ear-splitting decibels and appears to be prompted by some previously unrealized but henceforth unfailing allegiance to ones TFA regional placement. I am frequently greeted by people flashing a two handed "delta," a secret handshake, and- yes- a "Delta rap."

In potentially more interesting news, I actually am teaching now. It is somewhat hilarious, and my first actual lesson today was met with no less than three faculty observers. No pressure! I do get to use a smartboard, and the kids are way more savvy than I am. Yup, folks- the kids are setting up my proverbial VCR. I'm officially Old.

And, on that note, I go to bed. Like an old teacher lady. I miss everyone and everything, seriously.
